EIN MOMENT IN BERLIN
Short Film
director
A visual reverie, experimenting with the realities and abstractions of liberation during the end of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Approach
For my first project in Berlin, I approached the film as an exploration of what it feels like to be in a new place - a new country - during a global pandemic. The city itself became a character, and I focused directorially on themes of wandering, wondering, and seeking, allowing the environment, movement, and chance encounters to guide the narrative. We collaborated with Julia Hubernagel, a writer from Die Zeit, whose voiceover added a reflective and lyrical layer, framing the film’s moments with thoughtfulness and nuance.
Visually, we wanted to explore a variety of locations and women, capturing glimpses of the city’s everyday life while grazing its diversity. By keeping our approach observational and abstract, we allowed each scene to breathe, resisting the urge to dictate meaning or force a conventional story arc. The project unfolded over an entire year, filmed intermittently during the ebbs and flows of COVID restrictions, which shaped both our access to the city and the rhythm of our storytelling. This extended process gave the film space to evolve organically, reflecting the quiet, often solitary experience of discovery and adaptation in a world in flux.
